JAMES D. SEARS
Dr. James “Jim” Sears has a rich career history of advocacy for children and adults with disabilities and special needs. Jim has been a special education classroom teacher and a public school principal. Following earning his masters and doctoral degrees from The University of Florida with a major in special education, he has been a professor at the University of Alabama, and has been an adjunct professor at Spring Hill College and the University of South Alabama. After graduating from The University of Alabama School of Law, he has concentrated his efforts on Special Education Law (representing children with disabilities) and Criminal Defense Law (representing defendants who have diagnoses of intellectual disabilities and/or mental illness). Jim has published numerous professional articles and is a frequent lecturer to professional and parent groups, locally, nationally and internationally. He has held leadership roles in drafting and implementing rules, regulations and policies concerning the rights of the disabled.

SHANE T. SEARS
Shane T. Sears is an active volunteer in his hometown of Tuscaloosa and the greater Birmingham community. He volunteers with organizations that assist disabled individuals, as well as being a community board member for TREAC (Tuscaloosa Research and Education Advancement Corporation through the Department of Veterans' Affairs). TREAC is an organization that strives to improve the health and quality of life of veterans through the advancement of clinical knowledge through research and education. After graduating from The University of Alabama School of Law, Shane has defended large corporations, represented individuals in personal injury cases, and advocated for the rights of special needs students in public school systems throughout the state of Alabama.
